How to legalise a document
The British Consulates can perform a variety of notarial services, including:
| Certifying photocopies of documents in French or English | 29 euros for 5 photocopies + 6 euros per extra photocopies |
| Legalising a UK birth, death, marriage certificate which bears a General Register Office stamp | 32 euros |
| Taking oaths or affirmations, statutory declarations under the 1835 act, Affidavit | 61 euros |
| Legalising a signature | 32 euros |
| Issuing certificates of nationality | 41 euros (service only available in Paris) |
If you would like to come in person you do not need to make an appointment.
If you do not need to sign before a consular officer, you can send your original documents by post (include a SAE for the return) to the following address:

The Hague Convention: Apostille
Public documents issued in the UK which need to be legalised for use in France are covered by the 1961 Hague Convention which abolished the requirement for legalisation of public documents.
