When things go wrong

In the event of a serious consular problem, for example, a serious illness or accident, a death or an arrest, please contact the duty officer on the numbers given below. The duty officer will also be able to help if you need to travel urgently and have lost your passport or your passport has expired.

There is a statutory attendance fee of £128.00 per hour (147.00 €) if a consular officer has to provide a service out of office hours, such as issuing an emergency passport. This is not charged in the case of accident, serious illness, death or arrest but is charged for the majority of other consular help.

Please note

Out of office hours, the duty officer is available to provide emergency help but does not work out of the Consulate-General and is therefore not available to answer general or routine enquiries, particularly about visas.
