Getting medical help

In case of emergency, dial directly the following free europe-wide emergency number 112.

For the French SAMU (Service d'Aide Médical d'Urgence), dial emergency number 15.

SOS Médecins' hotline on 3624, is available day and night, Sundays andholidays. A doctor will travel to your address for consultation, but if your case is not a priority call, you might have to wait for a few hours. SOS Medecins website can give you more information.

Having taken down your details (name, address, symptoms), the operator will put you through to the doctor "on call" (de permanence). According to his diagnosis, arrangements will be made for a doctor and/or ambulance team to be sent to administer first aid, and if necessary, transport to hospital. Corresponding charges are payable.

Dentists

SOS dentistes in Paris on 01 43 37 51 00 can give you the name of a dentist in Paris on Sunday duty.

Night and Sunday duty doctors

Your nearest Commissariat de Police will have the telephone numbers of doctors and pharmacies on duty in your area.

Poisoning

If poisoning is suspected, call the Fernand Widal anti-poison centre in Paris 24h helpline on 01 40 37 04 04. They will give first aid advice. There might be a similar centre closer to you. Please check the list of anti-poison centres on the French Health Ministry website.


Dog or animal bites

Following an animal bite, you should either consult the nearest GP or go to A&E (service des urgences) at your nearest hospital. If you are in Paris, please consult a doctor at the Institut Pasteur, preferably during surgery hours from 9.00 to 12 noon.

The Fire Brigade

The Fire Brigade (les pompiers) number in France is 18. In case of an accident (road accident or a sport-related injury), they often provide rapid emergency first aid service and transport to a hospital.
