Working with France

From climate change and financial instability to health pandemics andweapons proliferation, national security and prosperity depend on ourwork with other nations.

We live in a world of increased connections and interdependence through travel, trade and communication. And what happens in one part of the world – whether political, economic or social – directly affects us and the way we live our daily lives.

So we work hard to build and maintain the international and domestic links we need, to maintain and develop our security and prosperity.

Here is an overview of the departments within the Embassy who contribute towards achieving the FCO policy goals:

Political Section

The Political Section of the Embassy, or Chancery, promotes bilateral political and defence relations between Britain and France, and works closely with the French Government to address international issues of concern. For more information on the type of bilateral work we do, please read "Working with France", on our local language site.

UK Trade & Investment Section

The Commercial Section (UKTI) supports British exports to France as well as investment projects in the country. We provide a wide range of services to both British and French businesses. Please visit our UK Trade & Investment pages, both in English and French.

Consular Section

The  Consular Section provides advisory services and help to British Citizens in France. It issues British passports and offers registration and notarial services to British subjects in France.  More information is available on our consular and passport pages.

The Visa Section issues over 10,000 entry clearances or visas per year for foreign nationals wishing to travel to the UK, in partnership with WorldBridge Services.

Science and Innovations Section

The Science andInnovations section of the Embassy works for the FCO's Science andInnovation Network, who's role is to strengthen the UK's long-termprosperity, sustainability and security in a globalised world. Again, for more information, we recommend you read our Science and Innovations pages on our local language site.

Press and Communications Section

The  Press and Communications Section promotes and provides information about Britain and British Government policies to the media and to the general public. It supports the Embassy and the Ambassador in all Public Diplomacy events, by handling briefings, press releases, media planning, media logistics, etc. The section can also offer an extensive range of general information and publications via its Public Enquiries service.

To allow a much wider audience to discover Britain and its foreign policy work, the Embassy's Press and Communications office publishes a free monthly electronic newsletter in French, called Outre-Manche. If you would like to subscribe to the newsletter, please email distribution.om@fco.gov.uk.
